Zamenhof Day

15th December 2015

L. L. ZamenhofZamenhof Day (Esperante: Zamenhofa Tago) is celebrated on the 15th December. The day celebrates the birthday of Esperanto’s creator L.L. Zamenhof, as well as the language itself. Traditional activities include:

  • Buying an Esperanto book. From the Lord of the Rings (Esperante: La Mastro de l’ Ringoj) to Tintin (Esperante: Tinĉjo), there are so many to choose from!
  • Holding special Esperanto gatherings. This day is also used as a reason to get together with fellow Esperantists during the Christmas period.
  • Posting about Esperanto on social media using the hashtag ‘#EsperantoLives‘. The aim of this is to educate non-Esperanto speakers about the language.
